St Nicholas Church - Newington, Kent
The St Nicholas Church at Newington in Kent has had a relationship with the Brockman family since the mid 1500's. Many of the family are buried here although in my visit in October 2006, most of the gravestones in the church yard were missing. I'm unsure if the missing headstones have been collected and housed somewhere else or are now lost forever. St Nicholas is a typical village church so it's not large. All the items of interest for Brockman and Drake-Brockman descendants are in the chancel which has numerous plaques and tablets including the former floor-based memorials, which were removed some time ago and placed on the walls. Below are pictures of these tablets, which I took during my last visit in 2006. There is nothing dedicated to Sir William Brockman in this church or at St Martin's at Cheriton. This was probably due to his opposition to Cromwell and his 'roundheads'.
